Lid application and Flowpack packaging
Wet or moist wipes first appeared in the market in the 70´s brought in by Procter & Gamble under the brand name Huggies. Nowadays, most of the wet or moist wipes are packaged in flowpacks, which are usually provided with a re-sealing label that allows the packet to be opened, a wipe to be removed and the pack to be resealed.

The flowpack machines usually used for the packaging of wet or moist wipes are the DELTA 3000 DELTA 3000 (Click for more information). The re-sealable lids are applied by means of hot glue straight onto the film before making the packaging. Nevertheless, this system generates a series of complications that have meant that manufacturers of wet wipes prefer the system of applying the re-sealable lid directly onto the already finished packaging, which improves the efficiency of the application and allows for greater flexibility as regards lid format. High speed lid applicator machines Lidr1 and Lidr2 (Pick & Place) with one or two robots, identify the packaging by means of artificial vision at the exit of the flowpack machine regardless of the orientation or the flow of the production. The lids are also picked up by a high speed robot which, by means of a synchronized movement applies glue to the lid with a hot melt glue gun before pressing the lid gently down onto the pack. This operation is followed by a quality control inspection carried out by artificial vision. This checks that the lid has been positioned correctly in accordance with the pack. Those packs that do not comply with the required specifications are automatically rejected. The finished packs are case packed by the case packer which is equipped with both horizontal and vertical packing options. |
